Starlink Launches in Somalia: A New Era of Internet Connectivity Begins

Mogadishu, Somalia – April 13, 2025 – In a historic move set to transform Somalia’s digital landscape, the National Communications Authority (NCA) officially awarded Starlink a license to provide internet services nationwide. At a landmark ceremony in Mogadishu, government leaders and Starlink executives gathered to mark this significant advancement in connectivity.

Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of the NCA, expressed optimism about the substantial impact Starlink’s satellite internet services will have. “Starlink’s entry into Somalia will revolutionize our efforts to bridge the internet access gap, especially benefiting communities beyond urban areas where connectivity remains a challenge,” he remarked.

Joining the celebration, Somalia’s Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Macallin, enthusiastically welcomed Starlink, highlighting how this initiative supports the government’s strategic vision. “We are thrilled to welcome Starlink to Somalia. This milestone aligns perfectly with our ambition of bringing affordable and accessible internet to every Somali citizen, no matter how remote their location.”

Starlink’s advanced satellite technology is anticipated to enhance significantly existing telecommunications infrastructure, enabling high-speed, reliable internet access nationwide. Students, businesses, government institutions, and everyday citizens—even in the most isolated areas—will soon experience vastly improved connectivity and digital services.

Somalia, already benefiting from several submarine cables along its coastlines, now stands to gain from Starlink’s innovative satellite solution. Unlike traditional connectivity methods, Starlink’s service can reach remote areas previously out of range, marking the beginning of unprecedented digital inclusion for all Somalis.
