Mogadishu Demands Rule of Law: Arrest Those Who Attacked the Police and Freed al-Shabaab Suspects
They attacked a police station, freed an al-Shabaab fighter, and caused damage to government property, including the Somali police command center. They are not just opposing the government; they are actively breaking the law.
The Importance of Rule of Law in Mogadishu
If the government tolerates this, it will perpetuate a cycle of violence. Consider what Hassan Sheikh and Hamza Abdi Bare will do once they leave office tomorrow—they will continue acting the same recklessly. The Somali government is making significant progress against al-Shabaab in Mogadishu, and it is crucial to arrest these criminals immediately; otherwise, the government’s credibility will be permanently damaged. There cannot be two parallel governments holding the same powers that should not coexist in Mogadishu. We’ve had enough—if the government does not take strong action to bring these groups to justice, it will lose confidence, and everyone will try to step in.
As the people of Mogadishu, we are ready to sacrifice everything. They cannot challenge al-Shabaab’s authority; why they are defying government orders is unacceptable. If the government fails to do its job, police and military officers should resign en masse. Our message is clear: we demand action now.
