The Puntland Deploys Anti-Terror Trained Forces in Mudug Clan Conflict, Complicating Peace Efforts

Puntland administration has deployed forces trained to combat Al-Shabaab and ISIS in the Bari region to participate in the ongoing Mudug clan conflict in the Mudug region. This escalation has made it difficult for traditional leaders to stop clan fighting.

Forensic evidence from this video shows that the troops arrived at the site of a conflict between two clans in the Mudug region. According to inside sources, Puntland President Said Abdullahi Dani and Puntland’s Interior Minister Abdi Farah Juxa are allegedly behind this, aiming to demonstrate to the world that the Somali government has failed to stop clan conflicts. However, these sources indicate that the Puntland administration is fueling the conflict. The Finance Minister of Puntland told Garowe Online yesterday that a ceasefire had been reached, but shortly after, fighting resumed between the two clans.

In communication with the GalMudug administration, the Minister revealed the obstacle to peace– the clan’s rejection of ongoing peace talks. Puntland’s involvement in this conflict, seen as a political strategy to pressure the Somali government, has further complicated the situation. Traditional leaders, who have made strenuous efforts to end the violence, are facing a new challenge in the form of this rejection.
