Mogadishu Somalia

The Director of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), Mr. Ahmed Macalin Hassan, conducted an inspection visit today to the new airport under construction in Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug. He was accompanied by the Deputy Director and a team of expert engineers who assessed the progress of the project and reviewed key technical components of the airport’s development.

The new Dhuusamareeb Airport is designed to serve as a strategic backup to Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, which has now become the third-busiest airport in East Africa. Once completed, the airport will be capable of handling large civilian aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and Boeing 747.

Somalia is currently undergoing its final international civil aviation audit as the country continues to emerge from decades of conflict and rebuild its aviation sector.

The government has previously announced that several aircraft have been procured as part of plans to revive Somali Airlines, and passing this audit is a key milestone in that process. With aviation activity in Somalia steadily increasing, the country expects a rise in both local and international flights. Several foreign airlines have already expressed interest in launching new routes to Somalia once the audit is successfully completed, signaling strong confidence in the nation’s growing aviation market.
