Foreign Military Adviser Highlights Progress and Challenges in Somalia

A foreign military adviser currently working with the Somali National Army shared insights into the ongoing efforts to stabilize Somalia. Speaking to local military personnel, the adviser emphasized the importance of their role in shaping the country’s future.

“We are here to support you,” the adviser said. “Somalia has faced prolonged instability due to two primary factors: political disagreements and the insurgency led by al-Shabaab.” According to the adviser, the solution to al-Shabaab lies in decisive military action combined with strategic measures to diminish their influence. “The Somali government, alongside its international advisers, has implemented systems to Reduce al-Shabaab’s activities. These efforts are working and continue to weaken the group’s grip on Somali society,” the adviser noted.

Political Deadlock Hampers Progress.

However, the adviser pointed out that political disagreements remain a significant hurdle. “We observe that politicians often fail to honor their commitments. Agreements, signed documents, and negotiations are frequently undermined,” the adviser said. The United Nations and other organizations have identified this recurring cycle as a central issue in Somali politics.

Despite these challenges, the adviser expressed optimism about the reduced prevalence of clan-based conflict compared to the civil war of the early 1990s. “We no longer see Somali people taking up arms on a clan basis to support political interests that harm the country. As military leaders, you are at the center of everything. It is your duty to show respect to society and demonstrate that you represent the people, not political factions,” the adviser urged.

Strengthening Governance and Military Discipline

The adviser commended the current Somali government, including parliament, for representing the population’s interests and granting the mandate necessary for progress. “We are training you to uphold the Somali military code of conduct and follow the legal framework established by parliament. This is essential for the country to move forward,” the adviser said.

Additionally, the adviser highlighted the role of military and political experts in steering the country away from a history of one-man rule and political warlordism. The message was clear: Somalia’s progress depends on its leaders adhering to governance structures and prioritizing the nation’s collective interests.

A Warning Against External Interference

The adviser warned international organizations and neighboring countries, urging them to respect Somalia’s sovereignty. “We send a clear message: Do not interfere in Somalia’s internal politics. The Somali people deserve peace and stability,” the adviser stated.

Expanding Security Measures Across the Nation,

The adviser concluded by emphasizing the importance of replicating the successful strategies used to secure Mogadishu in other cities across Somalia. “Our goal is for Somalia to achieve lasting peace. As military leaders, it is your responsibility to fulfill the dreams of the Somali people and ensure their security,” the adviser affirmed.
