LOWER SHABELLE — The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by National Intelligence units and local community forces, has carried out a successful, coordinated security operation today in parts of Lower Shabelle, dismantling Al-Shabaab positions and restoring government control over key locations.

According to information confirmed by federal authorities, the joint forces targeted militants operating in the area and fully cleared them from all zones where the operation was conducted. The government says the operation reflects an increasingly integrated approach that combines military pressure, intelligence coordination, and local participation.

In an official statement, the Federal Government announced t

hat SNA units have secured four strategic locations: Galka Saalimoow, Diira-fuul, Qodqodka, and Dooxa—areas previously exploited by the group for movement and intimidation.

The operation was led by the Commander of the 1st Gorgor Commando Division, Brig. Gen. Saahid Jaamac Faarax (Jareere). Authorities confirmed that all liberated areas are now under full control of the Somali National Army, with stabilization efforts underway.

Beyond combat actions, the forces conducted route-clearance operations, removing landmines planted by Al-Shabaab along key roads used by civilians and security personnel. The army also destroyed critical hideouts and operational bases used to terrorize local communities.

Officials describe the mission as part of the ongoing special operations campaign aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s networks through sustained pressure and cooperation with local resistance forces. Over recent days, SNA units have intensified operations across Lower Shabelle, dealing notable setbacks to the group’s capabilities.

The government says operations will continue until lasting security and civilian safety are fully restored across the region.
