How Puntland’s Leadership Profits from Sudan’s Bloodshed

Recent investigations have uncovered a disturbing reality: Puntland’s President, Siad Abdullahi Dani, and his close associate, Abdi Farah Juxa, a U.S. citizen, are allegedly profiting from Sudan’s ongoing war by supplying illegal arms and medical supplies under the pretense of fighting ISIS in Puntland.

 From Puntland Somalia to Sudan

According to Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) investigations and multiple eyewitness accounts, the illegal supply chain moves through Boosaaso Port and Boosaaso Airport before reaching the Sudanese rebels, specifically the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Several military dealers in Mogadishu, whom Qaran24 spoke with, confirmed that these supplies travel by land through Ethiopia, facilitated by a Somali and Ethiopian smugglers network.

The Mogadishu government is aware of this illicit operation. Still, it remains silent due to fear of backlash from local Puntland communities, who have been misled into believing that these supplies are intended for counterterrorism efforts against ISIS. If the federal government were to take direct action, it risks facing public unrest and local retaliation, making intervening politically tricky.

A False War Against ISIS: The Cover-Up

The so-called war against ISIS in Puntland is a smokescreen to conceal the illegal trade. Under the guise of counterterrorism operations, shipments containing arms and medical supplies are redirected through Ethiopian land routes into RSF-controlled areas of Sudan.

Eyewitnesses interviewed by Qaran24.com reported that large trucks frequently cross the Somalia-Ethiopia border at night when Ethiopian border officials are absent. These movements involve bribery and collusion with clan leaders, allowing smuggling operations to go unchecked. Ethiopian truck drivers, who usually engage in legitimate trade—such as transporting potatoes, livestock feed, and salt—are now reportedly increasingly involved in smuggling supplies to RSF forces in Sudan.

Who Benefits? The War Profiteers

The biggest beneficiaries of this operation are Siad Abdullahi Dani and Abdi Farah Juxa, who are reportedly accumulating massive profits by exploiting the bloodshed of Sudanese civilians. They do not represent the people of Puntland or Somalia; they are war profiteers facilitating mass violence and instability in Sudan.

These two individuals continue to deceive the Puntland population and Somali people, claiming that their resources are being used in the fight against terrorism. Meanwhile, every aircraft and shipment under their control is part of a well-orchestrated smuggling operation serving the RSF in Sudan.

A Call for Accountability

The people of Puntland and Somalia must not remain silent. This is not a war against ISIS but a dirty business that fuels the suffering of Sudanese civilians. It is time for the Somali federal government, the international community, and human rights organizations to launch a full-scale investigation and hold these war criminals accountable.

Siad Abdullahi Dani and Abdi Farah Juxa must face justice for profiting off the blood of Sudanese civilians. The world cannot turn a blind eye to this blatant abuse of power, smuggling, and war profiteering.
