Puntland Government Moves to Approve Gara’ad Port Transfer Agreement Amidst Controversy.

The Puntland government is set to approve the transfer agreement of Garacad port during the current session of Parliament.

The agreement, reportedly to be signed by President Saeed Abdullahi Deni in Dubai later this week, has sparked considerable debate and scrutiny.

The port, located in the Mudug region, was originally established following community consultations, underscoring its local importance.

Under the terms of the agreement, management of the port will be fully transferred to Abu Dhabi Ports Company, a subsidiary of DP World. This decision has raised concerns about the implications for local control and economic sovereignty.

Reports indicate that President Deni will receive a substantial $20 million signing bonus upon finalizing the agreement, according to information from independent sources.

The financial aspect of the deal has drawn criticism from various quarters, questioning the transparency and long-term benefits for Puntland.
